TRAVEL TIPS

Hours of Operation

Although hours differ little in New Mexico from other parts of the United States, some businesses do keep shorter hours here than in more densely populated parts of the country. Within the state, businesses in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Taos do tend to keep later hours than in rural areas. Hours of individual banks, post offices, and many other shops and services can vary greatly, so it's always wise to phone ahead before visiting.

Most major museums and attractions are open daily or six days a week (with Monday or Tuesday being the most likely day of closing). Hours are often shorter on Saturday and especially Sunday, and a handful of museums in the region stay open late one night a week, usually Friday. It's always a good idea to call ahead if you're planning to go out of your way to visit a museum, shop, or attraction in a smaller town.

In Santa Fe and Albuquerque, you can find some convenience stores and drugstores open 24 hours, and quite a few supermarkets open until 10 or 11 at night. Bars and discos stay open until 1 or 2 am.
